RENOVATIONS - out with the old, in with the new! (Or in many cases, a harmonious blend of both)

We didn't set out to be the "go to team" for renovations but we gladly accept the honor. From simply adding curb appeal or improving energy efficiency to tackling major transformations it takes a highly skilled team of professionals to seamlessly blend old and new. Love your location but not your space? Let us assist you in transforming your home - into the one you have been dreaming of.

A Cape Cod Refresh: Renovation

Design-Build

As these before and after pictures show, this interior renovation and remodel was aimed at modernizing the kitchen, bathrooms, and living spaces. In the kitchen, Rave updated the flooring, relocated the fridge, added a peninsula with seating for two, replaced the countertops, painted, added new backsplash, and updated all the appliances and fixtures. Rave also removed the partition wall separating the living room from the kitchen. The owner's bedroom and office were combined and re-figured to maximize the space while two bathrooms underwent transformative face lifts.

Williamsburg Townhome Revamp

Design-Build

After years of renters' wear and tear, this Williamsburg town home needed a facelift to bring it into the 21st century. We started in the kitchen - a complete demo and remodel - ripping out the 70s cabinets and countertops. The new cabinets, countertops, dishwasher, microwave, and stainless steel sink and faucet are fresh and bright! We added additional space in the kitchen by relocating the washer and dryer to the second floor convienent to the bedrooms. In it's place, we relocated the fridge and added a pantry. We removed the entire first floor laminate flooring and replaced it with 12 x 12 neutral porcelain tile. We removed the beaten up baseboards and shoe moulding, replacing that with maintenance free white PVC trim. Two coats of light gray Sherwin Williams paint and this place is move in ready!

"WOW, the whole place looks awesome. I really appreciate how we've managed this long distance relationship."

Wormley Creek Rancher: Renovation

Design-Build

The goal of this total home renovation was to create a cohesive, architectural language for all existing and new features. It also addressed the long-term functionality of aging in place and dealt with RPA issues and setbacks. This home renovation included complete design development, a new floor plan, a new entry, a new kitchen, a new sunroom, new bathrooms, a new master suite, an extended waterfront deck, new exterior features, and an addition. Rave installed all new flooring, all new interior trim, new drywall, new lighting, new windows etc. The end result far exceeded the goal by creating a fresh, bright, comfortable cottage which the owners will enjoy for many years to come.

Owner's Bath: Renovation

Design-Build

After living with a shower that the Owner's hated for 10 years, they made the decision that it was time to go. Rave was here to help! We demoed the existing flooring, shower, sinks, countertop, and Jacuzzi tub surround. We tiled a new shower with an oversized niche, quartz seat, and new glass door. We installed LVT flooring and replaced the Jacuzzi tub surround with a tile to match the shower. The owners updated their existing vanity with chalk paint and new pulls. We added new sinks and a stunning quartz countertop.

York River Residence: Renovation

Design-Build

A 1960's waterfront, cinderblock rancher on a postage stamp lot overlooking the York River is transformed into a coastal inspired haven.  Existing sewer and well locations, stringent zoning setbacks and RPA (Resource Protection Area) constraints may have led to a challenging design process but the end result is a home which exudes elegance and adds charm and character to the neighborhood. Every room in this home underwent some form of transformation.

"We absolutely LOVE our home. Thank you!"

Severn River Residence: Renovation

Design-Build

The original portion of this home was a replica of the "Orrell House" in Williamsburg.  Our goal was to enhance existing spaces to suit the current owners' needs, to design and construct an addition that continues to honor the vernacular of the historically inspired home, and to add a roomy master suite, half bath and an artist's studio on the second floor.

Throughout the interior you will find modern features married with architectural antiques acquired by the owner during his trips to Europe over the years.

"We couldn't be happier!" - Skip

"You all did an amazing job respecting the original design. It is absolutely beautiful and I can't imagine it being done any other way!"

- the former homeowner

Claybank Residence: Renovation

Design-Build

The Claybank waterfront home transformation demonstrates the importance of working with a design+build firm to bring your vision to life. This cottage renovation maximized the space for family and river living. The end result is a warm, bright, open, and cheerful home that entices the family to extend their weekend visits. Changes included removing the wall between the kitchen, dining, and living room to create one inviting space. A new kitchen layout with new cabinets, a new island with breakfast bar, new countertops, new cabinets, and a new ceiling beam. Remodeling the existing utility room and guest bath into a new entrance foyer, new half bath, new guest bath, and a utility closet. Converting another existing guest bath to an ensuite master bath.

Patriot's Walk: Storm Damage Repair

Design-Build

Rave tackles a variety of design build needs from minor repairs to major renovations to custom home builds. The winds of Hurricane Michael caused a tree to go through this owner's roof resulting in extensive interior and exterior damage. Storm, wind, and water damage are some of the most common reasons homeowners are in need of a reliable, reputable contractor. We demo'd the roof and all the damaged siding, drywall, insulation, floors, ceilings, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. Rave replaced all these damaged items with new materials resulting in an almost brand new home.

1893 American Foursquare: Renovation

Design-Build

Situated at the corner of Hoefork & Hayes Road, Melisa and Ray fell in love with this home the moment they pulled into the driveway. Over the course of nearly 4 years of weekends, this American Foursquare underwent a major overhaul. From leaky plumbing, sagging joists, no insulation in the exterior walls and additions that were poorly planned, they stripped the home down to the studs, demo'd the additions and incorporated modern amenities & carefully planned additions that will ensure this home is enjoyed for at least another 100 years.  The home sold in November of 2014.

York River Residence: Renovation

Design-Build

A cinderblock cottage on "Richmond Row" at Gloucester Point was transformed into a Nags Head inspired full time residence. Rave was originally contacted to renovate the kitchen, replace the windows and side the exterior.  After Melisa shared with them a floor plan that better utilized their existing space, the project became a 1 story overhaul and just as we were about to wrap up those renovations, they asked us to add on a second story. The rest as they say, is history.

"Melisa showed us ideas we had never imagined and that is just what we needed."

- Carolyn

Farmhouse rebirth

Design-Build

The Owners purchased this 100+ year old farmhouse from the descendants of the original builder. Oh if these walls could talk! Having gone through multiple renovations over its lifetime, the clients hired Rave to bring it into the 21st century with the desire to reuse some of the homes original elements such as the newel posts, while opening up the floor plan and providing room for entertaining.

The kitchen, dining and living spaces underwent a major overhaul. We added a full bath on the second floor and finished an attic space that now serves as a super cool playroom.

Sarah's Creek Residence: Renovation

Design-Build

After hiring an architect & another design professional on two different occasions, the homeowner had given up on renovating until a friend referred him to Rave. This 1960's brick rancher was tired, dated & lacked views of Sarah's Creek. Much of the floor plan was changed to accommodate a new layout. The existing garage became a 3rd bedroom with an adjoining full bath & a utility room. We extended the home in two directions to incorporate an additional waterfront bedroom & an expansive screen porch.

"Hiring Rave for my renovation was not a hard decision. Ray & Melisa are extremely knowledgeable & personable. Now that the project is complete, I can't imagine it any other way." - Dave

Room for Guests on the Ware River

Design-Build

A custom built A-frame the client had constructed by another firm in Gloucester some 20 years ago had reached the end of its capacity.  The client hired Rave to design a first floor guest bedroom and bathroom, secondary entry way, create a screened porch out of an existing deck, redo the railings to their upstairs balcony and build a new deck to partially wrap around their new above ground pool.

Mimosas anyone?

Cappahosic Area Residence: Renovation

Design-Build

Sometimes all a client is seeking is to add a little curb appeal and to make their home more energy efficient.  This 80's A-frame got just what the doctor ordered. New siding, a front porch for relaxation and vinyl replacement windows to cut down on those heating and cooling costs.

After completing the exterior renovations, we were hired a second time to open up the kitchen and living spaces. Hidden beneath that island are the washer and dryer! Who says function has to limit creativity?

"Every time we pull into our driveway, we can't believe this is the same house. We LOVE it!"  - Diana

Home

A place for retreat, a canvas for our treasures. It is the smell of Sunday dinners. Where light waxes and wanes. Where fires warm our bodies and where memories are made with the ones we love.    - Melisa
