In addition to being passionate about their design-build craft, there are times when Ray and Melisa are afforded opportunities to express their creativity and skill through other mediums.

DINING TABLE (Design+Build & Reclaimed)

A custom designed dining table Ray crafted from heart pine and oak timbers he salvaged from the clients' 150yr old barn in Gloucester.

After planing, cutting, sanding and assembling the boards, the wood was finished with several coats of Minwax and sealed with 4 coats of polyurethane.

ROCKING CHAIR (Refinished)

Ready for soothing the next generation of grandkids. Ray was hired to refinish an 80yr old family heirloom for a client who wanted to give this as a Christmas present to their Mother-in-law. We're told the recipient was brought to tears when she received it.

MELISA'S DESK (Refurbished)

100yr old mahogany garage find. Sanded, primed and then painted with Sherwin Williams' Durations series Aquaduct. Next Melisa applied multiple layers and colors of Minwax stain and a wash she created from one of the colors in order to achieve a weathered look. Finally, an application of Danish Teak Oil was applied to the top and drawer fronts.

CONFERENCE TABLE (Repurposed)

Desiring not to have "Just another conference table", Melisa transformed a solid core, birch veneered door slab into a functional piece of abstract art.

Throwing caution to the wind, there were no plans made for the final product. "Sometimes we just have to let a piece speak to us." Instead, she allowed the wood grain to guide the placement of 3 semi-transparent stains - Aquaduct, Pearwood and Provencial Blue, (sometimes pre-mixing the pearwood and aquaduct to achieve a greener hue) and completed it with meticulously placed striations of gold metallic paint. These images do not do the piece justice.

She is still on the hunt for new legs and new chairs!
